Mechanism Of Action

Milrineon 10mg Injection is a vasodilator. It increases the level of a chemical messenger (cAMP), which helps the smooth muscles to relax. Thus, dilates the blood vessels for better blood flow into the heart. It also has blood thinning property.

Pharmacokinets

At each dose milrinone effected prompt but very short-lived increases in cardiac output and left ventricular stroke work and decreases in pulmonary artery pressure, right atrial pressure and systemic and pulmonary vascular resistance in a non-dose-dependent fashion.

Contra Indications

Indications

Milrinone is a medication indicated for cardiac support in patients with acute heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, or chronic heart failure. It is often used during cardiac surgeries, including coronary artery bypass graft surgery, cardiac transplantation, and other cardiac surgeries requiring cardiac support.

Interactions

Drug-Drug interactions: Disopyramide (antiarrhythmic medication), isocarboxazid (antidepressant), rasagiline (treat symptoms in early Parkinson's disease), selegiline ( treatment of Parkinson's disease), tizanidine (treat muscle spasticity), procarbazine (used for the treatment of brain cancers).

Drug-Food Interactions: Alcohol should not be taken along with MILRINONE to avoid unpleasant side effects.

Drug-Disease Interactions: Arrhythmias (improper beating of the heart,), liver disease, hypotension (low blood pressure), thrombocytopenia (abnormally low levels of platelets), myocardial infarction (heart attack).
