Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Montair Plus Tablet is a combination of four medicines: Bambuterol and montelukast. Bambuterol is a bronchodilator which works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and widens airways. Montelukast is a leukotriene antagonist. It works by blocking the action of leukotriene, a chemical messenger.

Pharmacokinets

Bambuterol is stable to presystemic elimination and is concentrated by lung tissue after absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. The prodrug is hydrolysed to terbutaline primarily by butyrylcholinesterase, and lung tissue is capable of this metabolic pathway.

Montelukast causes inhibition of airway cysteinyl leukotriene receptors as demonstrated by the ability to inhibit bronchoconstriction due to inhaled LTD4 in asthmatics. Doses as low as 5 mg cause substantial blockage of LTD4-induced bronchoconstriction.
