Give Montina 4 Tablet to your child at a fixed time before or after food in the prescribed dose, time, and way. You may need to give it to your child for a few weeks before it starts to prevent asthma attacks. For asthma, prefer giving Montina 4 Tablet in the evening or 2 hours before physical activity. For allergy, it is best to give it in the evening, depending upon the time of onset of symptoms. In case your child has both, prefer giving it in the evening. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking this medicine, give the same dose again, but skip it if it’s already time for the next dose.
Your child may start to feel better after a few regular doses. However, you must still complete the prescribed dose to ensure maximum benefit. Moreover, stopping the medicine abruptly may worsen your child’s condition. This medicine may cause some minor and temporary side effects like fever, headache, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Usually, these episodes subside once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, in case these effects persist or start bothering your child, consult your child’s doctor without any delay.
Let your child’s doctor know if your child is already taking any medicines. Also, narrate your child’s complete medical history, including any prior episodes of allergy, heart problem, blood disorder, vascular disorders, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, skin disorder, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This information is critical for dose alterations and in planning your child’s overall treatment.
Montina 4 Tablet is a leukotriene antagonist that works by blocking a chemical messenger (leukotriene). This reduces inflammation (swelling) in the airways and nose and improves symptoms.
Montelukast is rapidly absorbed following oral administration. After administration of the 10-mg film- coated tablet to fasted adults, the mean peak montelukast plasma concentration (Cmax) is achieved in 3 to 4 hours (Tmax). The mean oral bioavailability is 64%.
Montina 4 Tablet does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. Montelukast is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the drug or its components. In addition, for patients with phenylketonuria (PKU), caution should be exercised with phenylalanine-containing formulations.

Montelukast is used to prevent wheezing, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, and coughing caused by asthma in adults and children 12 months of age and older. Montelukast is also used to prevent bronchospasm (breathing difficulties) during exercise in adults and children 6 years of age and older.
MONTELUKAST may have an interaction with pain killers (ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac), blood thinners (aspirin), antiallergic medications (cetirizine), antiasthma drugs (salmeterol, albuterol, formoterol), anti-hypertensive medication (metoprolol), and anti-epilepsy medications (phenobarbital, phenytoin).
Do not chew, crush or break it. Montina 4 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

While increasing the dose may cause unwanted effects like sedation and depression, decreasing the dose or stopping it suddenly can result in a rebound reversal of all symptoms.

No, all symptoms may reappear on sudden withdrawal of Montina 4 Tablet usually if taken for a long-term. It is advised to stop this medicine gradually under the guidance of your child’s doctor.
