Mprol 25mg Tablet may be prescribed alone or together with other medications. The dose and frequency will depend on what you are taking it for and the severity of your condition. It may be taken empty stomach or with a meal, but take it regularly at the same time each day to get the maximum benefit. It may take several weeks before you get the full benefit of this medicine and you may need to take it for the rest of your life. However, it is important to continue taking it even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not have symptoms if you stop taking it your condition may worsen.
Metoprolol is a cardioselective beta-1-adrenergic receptor inhibitor that competitively blocks beta1-receptors with minimal or no effects on beta-2 receptors at oral doses of less than 100 mg in adults. It decreases cardiac output by negative inotropic and chronotropic effects.
The pharmacokinetic profile of metoprolol succinate extended- release tablet was studied in 120 pediatric hypertensive patients (6-17 years of age) receiving doses ranging from 12.5 to 200 mg once daily. The pharmacokinetics of metoprolol were similar to those described previously in adults.

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Mprol 25mg Tablet.
Mprol 25mg Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Metoprolol Succinate Extended-Release Tablets USP are indicated for the treatment of hypertension, to lower blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure lowers the risk of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions.
A product that may interact with this drug is: fingolimod. Other medications can affect the removal of metoprolol from your body, which may affect how metoprolol works. Examples include lumefantrine, propafenone, quinidine, SSRI antidepressants (such as fluoxetine, paroxetine), St. John's wort, among others.
Do not chew, crush or break it. Mprol 25mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of Mprol 25mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Do not stop taking Mprol 25mg Tablet suddenly as it can cause your blood pressure to rise suddenly, thereby increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Avoid Mprol 25mg Tablet with high-fat meals such as olive oil, nuts & seeds (Brazil nuts), dark chocolate, butter and meat.

The time taken by Mprol 25mg Tablet to start working varies from person to person. Usually, Mprol 25mg Tablet starts working within 15 minutes. However, in some patients, it may take up to 2 hours to start working. It starts acting slowly and the maximum or full effect is usually experienced within a span of 1 week. In case you do not feel any difference while taking Mprol 25mg Tablet, do not panic. The medicine exerts its beneficial effects when taken for a long time.

Mprol 25mg Tablet is usually safe when taken as per the doctor’s prescription. This medicine exhibits dangerous effects if the medicine is stopped suddenly. Stopping the medicine suddenly can cause an abrupt increase in the heart rate and affect its activity, which can be dangerous for heart failure patients and can even lead to a heart attack in some patients. So, do not stop the medicine suddenly and take it for the prescribed duration.

If you forget to take a dose of Mprol 25mg Tablet, then take it as soon as you remember it. However, if the time of your next dose is nearby, then skip the missed dose to avoid taking a double dose.
