Mucotab Tablet can be taken with or without food, but take it at the same time to get the most benefit. It should be taken as your doctor's advice. The dose and how often you take it depends on what you are taking it for. Your doctor will decide how much you need to improve your symptoms. Dissolve the tablet in a glass of water and drink it immediately. Take this medicine for as long as it is prescribed for you.
The most common side effects of this medicine include fever, nausea, vomiting, and rash. If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. Generally, it is advised to drink plenty of fluids while on treatment with this medicine.
Before taking this medicine let your doctor know if you suffer from asthma, as close monitoring is required while taking this medicine. Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Mucotab Tablet is a mucolytic medication. It works by thinning the mucus (phlegm) making it easier to cough out. Thus, it clears the air passages and makes breathing easier. It also has antioxidant action.
After an oral dose of N-acetylcysteine 200 to 400 mg the peak plasma concentration of 0.35 to 4 mg/L is achieved within 1 to 2 hours. Although the data are conflicting, it appears that the administration of charcoal may interfere with drug absorption, with up to 96% of the drug adsorbed on to the charcoal.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Mucotab Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
Consuming alcohol with Mucotab Tablet does not cause any harmful side effects.
Mucotab Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
It is also approved for use in conditions with abnormal, viscid or inspissated mucous secretions such as pneumonia, bronchitis, tracheobronchitis, cystic fibrosis, tracheostomy patients, postoperative pulmonary complications, posttraumatic chest conditions and before diagnostic bronchoscopy to help with mucous plugging
ACETYLCYSTEINE may have interaction with antibiotics (tetracycline, penicillin, gentamicin, amikacin, neomycin), medicines used to treat chest pain (glyceryl trinitrate), cough suppressants (dextromethorphan, codeine).
Do not chew, crush or break it. Mucotab Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of Mucotab Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

It has a smelly odor. This is normal and does not indicate that the medicine has changed.

Q. Can I take Mucotab Tablet if I have liver problems?
It has been found that in some cases Mucotab Tablet can cause liver damage in prone patients and can lead to increased liver enzymes. Hence, it should be used with caution in patients with liver disease or who are prone to have liver disease/ history of liver disease. Before starting the medication inform your doctor if you have had a history of liver disease.

Yes, there are chances that Mucotab Tablet may cause anemia. It has been observed that Mucotab Tablet can cause a dose-related decrease in hemoglobin in the blood which could lead to anemia. Regular hemoglobin check is advised while taking Mucotab Tablet and consult your prescribing doctor for his advice. If the patients develop anemia then in some cases blood transfusion is done to correct it.
Q. Is Mucotab Tablet safe for pregnant women?
Mucotab Tablet can be given to a pregnant woman if the benefit of this medicine is more than the risk involved. Evidence shows it can be used in pregnant females without any gross risk to the fetus in the womb. Consult your doctor before starting the medication.
Q. How long can you take Mucotab Tablet for?
The duration of treatment with Mucotab Tablet will be decided by the doctor. It will depend on the type of disease for which it has been prescribed. For respiratory conditions, it can be taken for 5 days and can be further extended to 2 weeks depending upon the condition of the patient.
Q. Can Mucotab Tablet be given to children below 2 years of age?
Medicines like Mucotab Tablet are not recommended to be used in children under 2 years of age. This is because the medicine works by dissolving the mucus which can cause a block in the breathing airway, and children below 2 years of age may not be able to clear it or cough it out properly. Still, in certain conditions it can be prescribed by your doctor, hence, follow the instructions as provided. Consult the doctor for any query.
Q. Can I take cough syrups while taking Mucotab Tablet?
No, you should not start taking cough syrups without consulting your doctor. The cough syrups which suppress the cough should be avoided with this medication as it would interfere with the action of the medicine. Consult your doctor who will suggest an effective cough syrup that can increase the expectoration or sputum.
