Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Vecuronium is a bisquaternary nitrogen compound that acts by competitively binding to nicotinic cholinergic receptors. The binding of vecuronium decreases the opportunity for acetylcholine to bind to the nicotinic receptor at the postjunctional membrane of the myoneural junction

Pharmacokinets

The pharmacokinetic differences may be related to the differences in the sensitivity to vecuronium between genders. The possible factors influencing the pharmacokinetics of vecuronium, such as age [1,2], weight, hepatic and renal [5,6] insufficiency, pregnancy, and hypothermia, have been studied

Side Effects

Skin rash

Increased saliva production

Injection site reactions (pain, swelling, redness)

High blood pressure

Contra Indications

Other relative contraindications to the use of vecuronium include myopathy, obesity, and neuromuscular diseases, such as Eaton-Lambert syndrome and myasthenia gravis, as these conditions may prolong the drug's effect
