Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension can be given orally, either before or after food. Prefer giving it after food to prevent chances of stomach upset in your child and to enable better absorption of Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension. The usually prescribed frequency is two times a day. However, this may vary depending upon the type and severity of the infection as well as your child’s body weight and age. Therefore, stick to the dose, time, and way as prescribed by the doctor. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of intake, repeat the same dose but never double up the dose if it is time for the next dose.
Some children may develop minor and temporary side effects after taking this medicine. These include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, urine discoloration, and mild skin rash. These side effects usually go away once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, in case these side effects persist for long or start bothering your child, you must consult your child’s doctor without any delay.
Do inform your child’s doctor if your child has a heart problem, blood disorder, liver impairment, kidney malfunction, any chronic illness, or history of any prolonged antibiotic course. The doctor must also be aware if your child has ever had any previous episode of allergy. All this information will guide the doctor in planning your child’s overall treatment.
Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension exhibits antibiotic and antiparasitic properties due to its detrimental effect on the DNA of infection-causing microorganisms. It is bactericidal and directly kills the microorganism.
Following oral administration, nitazoxanide is rapidly hydrolyzed to the pharmacologically active metabolite, tizoxanide, which is 99% protein bound. Tizoxanide is then glucuronide conjugated into the active metabolite, tizoxanide glucuronide.
Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. Consult your child’s doctor if these side effects persist or bother your child. The most common side effects include-

Nitazoxanide is used to treat diarrhea in adults and children older than 1 year of age caused by the protozoa Cryptosporidium or Giardia. Protozoa are suspected as the cause when diarrhea lasts more than 7 days. Nitazoxanide is in a class of medications called antiprotozoal agents.

Discontinue Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.
Never save the medicine for future illnesses since its effectiveness in future infections cannot be guaranteed.
Give Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension only when prescribed by the doctor and only to the person for whom it is prescribed. Never share the medicines as they can harm.

Q. What if I give excess Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension by mistake?
No serious adverse effects have been reported after intake of high doses of Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension. But this does not mean that it is safe to give more than the recommended doses of Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension. In case you have given an excess of Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension to your child, consult your child’s doctor right away.
Q. What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension for the prescribed duration?
If the complete dose of Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension fails to provide relief to your child, it could mean that the medicine is not able to act against the infection-causing microorganism. In such a case, visit your child’s doctor who may prescribe some other antibiotic that has a stronger impact on the infection-causing agent.
Q. Can other medicines be given at the same time as Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension?
Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Q. My child’s urine color has changed ever since he started taking Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension. Is it normal?
Yes, it is normal. The chemical properties of Nixide 100mg/5ml Suspension may change the urine color. It is a harmless side effect that will subside once the medicine is stopped after completing the treatment.
