Nucarnit 500 Tablet should be taken with food and it should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not start or stop taking this medicine without a doctor's prescription.
Nucarnit 500 Tablet is usually a safe medicine, however, it may cause nausea and vomiting. Your doctor may suggest you to monitor your blood glucose levels regularly while you are taking the medicine.
Before starting the medicine, inform your doctor if you have any other medical conditions or are taking any other medications. Patients with severe kidney disease should not take this medicine unless prescribed by the doctor.
Levocarnitine belongs to the class of medications called as amino acid derivative. It works by improving the low levels of carnitine in the body.
After intravenous administration, the initial distribution volume of L-carnitine is typically about 0.2-0.3 L/kg, which corresponds to extracellular fluid volume. There are at least three distinct pharmacokinetic compartments for L-carnitine, with the slowest equilibrating pool comprising skeletal and cardiac muscle.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

To make sure levocarnitine is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis); a history of seizures; or. if you use a blood thinner (warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven) and you have routine "INR" or prothrombin time tests.
Nucarnit 500 Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Nucarnit 500 Tablet. Please consult your doctor.
Nucarnit 500 Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Levocarnitine is used to prevent and treat a lack of carnitine. It is used to prevent and treat this condition in patients with kidney disease on dialysis. It is given to people whose body cannot properly use carnitine from their diet. Lack of carnitine can lead to liver, heart, and muscle problems.
Drug-Drug Interaction: LEVOCARNITINE may interact with blood thinners (warfarin, dicumarol).

Drug-Disease Interaction: LEVOCARNITINE should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney, liver disease, diabetes, seizures (fits).

If you miss a dose of Nucarnit 500 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. Is Nucarnit 500 Tablet a steroid?
Nucarnit 500 Tablet is not a steroid. It contains Levo-carnitine which is a type of amino acid (made from the amino acids lysine and methionine). It helps in transporting fats to the cells, where fats get metabolized in order to produce energy. It is used to treat primary and secondary Levo-carnitine deficiency.
Q. When can a carnitine deficiency occur?
Carnitine deficiency may be of two types, primary and secondary. Primary is genetic and may show symptoms by five years of age. Whereas, secondary may occur due to certain disorders like kidney problems (chronic kidney failure) and use of antibiotics that reduces its absorption and increases its excretion.
Q. Does warfarin have any effect on Nucarnit 500 Tablet?
In some patients, warfarin when taken along with Nucarnit 500 Tablet may increase the time required for the formation of blood clot. Hence, before starting Nucarnit 500 Tablet, inform your doctor if you are taking warfarin.
Q. What is the best time to take Nucarnit 500 Tablet?
Nucarnit 500 Tablet should be taken as directed by your doctor. Generally, it is advised to be taken 3-4 times daily, preferably with meals or after meals.
