Olumiant 2mg Tablet is a Janus kinase inhibitor used to treat moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. It helps decrease pain, tenderness, and swelling in the joints by reducing inflammation. It also helps slow the progression of bone and joint damage.


Olumiant 2mg Tablet can be taken with or without food, but it is best to take them at the same time each day. Your dose will depend on your condition and what other medicines you are taking. You should use it as your doctor tells you to. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to because your condition could get worse.


The most common side effects of Olumiant 2mg Tablet include throat and nose infections, nausea, and viral infection. You may also get cold sores, a feeling of sickness, or have symptoms of a cold like stuffy nose, sneezing, and sore throat. There are other less common side effects, some of them serious, including blood clots and tears in the stomach or intestine wall. These need urgent medical attention. You may need blood tests before you are given this medicine and you should not start taking it if you have any kind of infection. Olumiant 2mg Tablet is a Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor that inhibits the activity of selective JAK1 and JAK2 enzymes, which interfere with the JAK-STAT signaling pathway (a chain of protein-cell interactions, involved in processes such as immunity, cell division, cell death, and tumor formation).

Baricitinib demonstrates dose-linear and time-invariant pharmacokinetics (PK), with low oral-dose clearance (17 L/h) and minimal systemic accumulation observed following repeat dosing.

Contra Indications

Baricitinib is contraindicated in patients with chronic kidney disease with an eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m². However, for COVID-19 patients, baricitinib is not recommended for patients with end-stage renal disease with an eGFR <15 mL/min/1.73 m².

Indications

baricitinib is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis who have had an inadequate response to one or more TNF blockers. Baricitinib may be used as monotherapy or in combination with methotrexate 9,11 or other DMARDs.

Interactions

Drug-Drug Interactions: BARICITINIB may interact with painkillers (tramadol), biological therapy (abatacept), steroid (prednisolone), anti-rheumatic drug (methotrexate).

Drug-Food Interactions: BARICITINIB may interact with ethanol.

Drug-Disease Interactions: BARICITINIB may interact with pregnancy, thromboembolism, abdominal disorders such as diverticulitis, GI perforation; cancer, liver disease, chronic infections such as tuberculosis, hepatitis B and C and shingles, and any anaemias.
