Mechanism Of Action

A pump called the proton pump present in the stomach wall is responsible for the secretion of stomach acids. Omeprazole present in Opaz Capsule binds to this proton pump in stomach cells, thus blocking acid secretion. Therefore, it is used in conditions where there is excessive acidity.

Pharmacokinets

In contrast to the long duration of antisecretory action, omeprazole is rapidly eliminated from plasma. The half-life is less than 1 hour, and omeprazole is almost entirely cleared from plasma within 3-4 hours. Omeprazole is completely metabolized in the liver.

Contra Indications

Interactions

Some products that may interact with this drug include: clopidogrel, mavacamten, methotrexate (especially high-dose treatment), rifampin, St John's wort. Some products need stomach acid so that the body can absorb them properly. Omeprazole decreases stomach acid, so it may change how well these products work.
