Orencia Powder for infusion is given by a healthcare professional and should not be self-administered. You should use it regularly and at the same time each day to get the maximum benefit from it. Continue using it as recommended by your doctor and complete the dose even if you feel better. You should not take any vaccinations while using this medicine and within 3 months after stopping the treatment.
Some common side effects of this medicine include headache, upper respiratory tract infection, nasopharyngitis, and nausea. Talk to your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away with time or get worse. Your doctor may help with ways to reduce or prevent these symptoms.
To make sure the medicine is safe for you, before taking it, let your doctor know if you have any problems with your heart, kidneys, or liver. You should also tell your doctor about all the other medicines you are taking. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should let your doctor know before using this medicine as it can cause harmful effects to the developing baby.
Orencia Powder for infusion blocks the action of certain chemical messengers that are responsible for inflammation, swelling and redness associated with certain joint diseases.
The bioavailability of abatacept following subcutaneous administration relative to intravenous administration is 78.6%. 16.7 (12-23) days in healthy subjects; 13.1 (8-25) days in RA subjects; 14.3 days when subcutaneously administered to adult RA patients. 0.4 mL/h/kg [juvenile idiopathic arthritis patients].

Orencia Powder for infusion is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.

Drug-Drug Interactions: ABATACEPT may interact with other immunosuppressants (certolizumab, golimumab, infliximab, adalimumab, rituximab, blood thinners (warfarin), cholesterol-lowering drugs (atorvastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin), acidity treating medicines (omeprazole), cough suppressants (Dextromethorphan), live vaccines, Alkylating agents (cyclophosphamide) and birth control pills.
Drug-Food Interactions: Alcohol consumption may cause dizziness and increase bleeding risk and liver injury.
Drug-Disease Interactions: ABATACEPT should be used with caution in liver or kidney disease cases, heart failure, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, weak immune system (HIV), hepatitis B, cancer, and serious infections.
