Planep 50 Tablet can be taken with or without food, but you should take it, in the same way, each time to get the most benefit. Taking it with food can reduce some side effects and taking it early in the day can prevent you from having to get up at night to go to the toilet. You should keep using this medicine as it has been prescribed, even if you feel well. If you stop taking it, your condition may get worse. If you are being treated for high blood pressure, lifestyle changes such as taking regular exercise and changes to your diet may increase the effectiveness of this medicine.
The common side effects include nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, headache, and cough. If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects.
You should be careful about using Planep 50 Tablet if you have kidney problems or are unable to urinate. Before taking it, tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney, liver, or heart disease or you are pregnant. Also let your healthcare team know about all other medications you are using as they may affect, or be affected by this medicine. This medicine should only be used if it is clearly needed during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. While using this medicine, you may be advised to limit your intake of salt or salt substitutes, and you should have your blood pressure checked frequently. Some other tests will be done to monitor your progress.
Planep 50 Tablet is a potassium-sparing diuretic. It lowers blood pressure and swelling by removing the extra water and electrolytes from the body without loss of potassium.
Eplerenone selectively binds to the mineralocorticoid receptor, thereby blocking the binding of aldosterone and thus inhibiting sodium reabsorption and other deleterious aldosterone-mediated mechanisms (3). Eplerenone is metabolized via the cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4 pathway.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Planep 50 Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
Planep 50 Tablet may cause excessive drowsiness with alcohol.

Eplerenone is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Eplerenone is in a class of medications called mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists. It works by blocking the action of aldosterone, a natural substance in the body that raises blood pressure.
EPLERENONE may interact with other high blood pressure-lowering pills (metoprolol, ramipril, hydrochlorothiazide), blood thinners (aspirin, warfarin), anti-epilepsy medicines (carbamazepine, phenobarbital), immune-suppressing drugs (cyclosporine), painkillers (ibuprofen), anti-fungal medicines (itraconazole, ketoconazole), HIV medicines (ritonavir, nelfinavir), anti-bacterial medicines (clarithromycin, telithromycin), anti-depressants (lithium).
Do not chew, crush or break it. Planep 50 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Store below 25°C
If you miss a dose of Planep 50 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

It can make you feel dizzy for the first few days. Do not drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how Planep 50 Tablet affects you.
It may increase the level of potassium in your blood. Avoid taking potassium supplements and potassium-rich foods such as banana and broccoli.
Your doctor will regularly check your kidney function and the amount of potassium in your blood while you are on this medicine.
Notify your doctor if you experience dizziness, diarrhea, vomiting, fast or irregular heartbeat, swelling in feet, or difficulty breathing.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Planep 50 Tablet is a potassium-sparing diuretic. It is prescribed with other medicines to control increased blood pressure and to treat heart failure in patients who have had a heart attack. It is not a beta blocker but mineralocorticoid receptor blocker.
Q. How long does Planep 50 Tablet take to work?
Planep 50 Tablet controls high blood pressure but does not cure it. You may not see any improvement because high blood pressure does not have any symptoms. But, if you get your blood pressure checked, you may notice a change within 2 weeks of starting Planep 50 Tablet. However, the medicine may take 4 weeks or longer to show its maximum benefits.
Q. Does Planep 50 Tablet cause erectile dysfunction?
No, Planep 50 Tablet does not cause erectile dysfunction. Planep 50 Tablet does not have any effect on fertility, in both males and females.
Q. My blood pressure is now controlled, still the doctor has asked me to continue the treatment. Can I stop Planep 50 Tablet?
No, you should not stop Planep 50 Tablet. If your doctor has advised you to continue treatment, keep taking it. Planep 50 Tablet does not cure blood pressure, but keeps the blood pressure in control. Therefore, keep taking the medicine even if your blood pressure is controlled. Stopping it may make your condition worse and you may have unwanted side effects.
Q. Planep 50 Tablet is a potassium-sparing diuretic. Does this mean that I will have more potassium in my body? Will it be beneficial for me?
Potassium-sparing diuretic are those medicines which increase the urination without causing any loss in potassium levels. Planep 50 Tablet allows sodium loss by body in exchange for potassium which is retained. It may result in an increase in the levels of potassium. Therefore, your doctor may monitor your potassium levels continuously. You may need to get it measured before starting Planep 50 Tablet, within the first week and one month after the start of treatment or after a change in dose. Potassium levels above normal range are not good for you or anyone.
Q. Does Planep 50 Tablet have any effect on the blood sugar levels?
Although it is not very common, but Planep 50 Tablet may increase your blood sugar levels. Therefore, it is important that you keep a regular check on your blood sugar levels if you are a diabetic. The use of Planep 50 Tablet should be avoided in patients who have type 2 diabetes along with some kidney problem in which the patient loses protein (albumin) in very small quantities in urine.
Q. I had been using Losartan for quite some time and was tolerating it well. Now my doctor has prescribed me Planep 50 Tablet along with Hydrochlorothiazide. I want to know why he just could not add Planep 50 Tablet with Losartan?
It could be possible that Losartan was not able to control your blood pressure adequately. Therefore, your doctor may have suggested an alternative medicine for blood pressure control (Planep 50 Tablet), but Eplerenone when taken with Losartan can enhance the chances of raised potassium levels which could be harmful for you. To prevent this rise in potassium levels, the combination of Planep 50 Tablet with hydrochlorothiazide may have been prescribed.
Q. Is there anything I need to be careful about if I am taking aspirin and have now started Planep 50 Tablet?
Aspirin may interfere with the working of Planep 50 Tablet due to which your blood pressure may not get adequately controlled. Aspirin and Planep 50 Tablet may increase the chances of rise in potassium levels in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, if both are to be used together, keep monitoring your blood pressure and potassium levels.
