PROCLID 5MG TABLET is also used to control extrapyramidal effects caused by certain medicines used to treat mental health conditions, which might include restlessness and unusual head and body movements.


PROCLID 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have tardive dyskinesia (uncontrolled movements of the head or tongue). Consult your doctor before taking it.


PROCLID 5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver, kidney disease, high blood pressure, heart disease, glaucoma, thyrotoxicosis. Consult your doctor before taking it.


PROCLID 5MG TABLET should be used during pregnancy only if it is considered clearly necessary. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding before taking it.


PROCLID 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents. PROCLID 5MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. The most common side effects of taking PROCLID 5MG TABLET are dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation and difficulty urinating. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

Mechanism Of Action

PROCLID 5MG TABLET works by stopping a substance called acetylcholine in the brain and helps to reduce the symptoms of Parkinson's disease such as muscle stiffness, sweating, production of saliva and improves walking ability in people with Parkinson’s disease and also helps to controls Parkinson-like side effects caused by certain medicines used to treat mental health conditions.


Pharmacokinets

Procyclidine is adequately absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract with a bioavailability of 75% and disappears rapidly from the tissue.

Mental health condition (unusual thoughts and perceptions, such as hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not real) or delusions (a belief or strong feeling which is not based on real information or experiences)

Nervousness, fast heartbeat

Dizziness, confusion or reduced ability to understand

Reduced memory, disorientation

Feeling anxious or agitated

Contra Indications

Procyclidine should not be administered to patients with angle-closure glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, or gastrointestinal obstruction. It should be used with caution in the elderly.

Indications

Procyclidine is indicated in all forms of Parkinson's disease: idiopathic (paralysis agitans), post encephalitic and arteriosclerotic.

Interactions

Drug-Drug interactions: PROCYCLIDINE may have interaction with antipsychotic (aripiprazole, lurasidone, olanzapine, risperidone, quetiapine, trifluoperazine), MAO inhibitor (rasagiline), antihistamine (diphenhydramine), anti-cholinergic (benztropine), anti-convulsant (clonazepam, lamotrigine, pregabalin), anti-depressants (escitalopram, duloxetine) anti-anxiety (alprazolam), and mild pain killers/fever-reducing agent (acetaminophen).

Drug-Food interactions: Avoid consuming alcohol with PROCYCLIDINE as it might increase dizziness, and drowsiness.

Drug-Disease interactions: PROCYCLIDINE may have interactions with disease conditions such as arrhythmia (irregular heartbeats), autonomic neuropathy (nerve damage), gastrointestinal obstruction, glaucoma, urinary obstruction, infectious diarrhea, tardive dyskinesia (involuntary facial movements), psychoses, high blood pressure, and fever.

Symptoms of PROCLID 5MG TABLET overdose are fast heartbeat, agitation, restlessness, confusion, severe inability to sleep, excitement, feel anxious and aggressive, disorientation, pupils in the eye may not open or close when light is shined on them, hallucinations, feeling very sleepy, fall into unconsciousness or into a coma.

How To Use

Take PROCLID 5MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Take it with food to reduce nausea. Swallow the medicine with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

Your doctor will decide an appropriate dose and duration depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking PROCLID 5MG TABLET unless your doctor advises you to stop. Otherwise, your symptoms may return.
