Ribavirin is a purine nucleoside analogue has broad-spectrum antiviral activity against influenza A and B, respiratory syncytial virus and many other DNA and double stranded RNA viruses. It is a mono- and triphosphate derivatives generated intracellularly inhibit GTP and viral RNA synthesis and have other sites of action.


Before taking RINHIB 200MG, tell your physician if you have liver, kidney or heart problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is not recommended for children and adolescents below 18 years of age. The common side effects are headache, muscle pain, weakness, fatigue and fever.

Ribavirin works by inhibiting the multiplication of many types of viruses, including the hepatitis C viruses.

After oral ingestion of ribavirin (which is the most typical route of administration), the plasma concentration exhibits a characteristic three-phase profile, consisting of two rapid phases (absorption and distribution) and one long terminal elimination phase.

Contra Indications

Ribavirin therapy is contraindicated in women who are pregnant and in the male partners of women who are pregnant. Extreme care must be taken to avoid pregnancy during therapy and for 6 months after completion of treatment in both female patients and in female partners of male patients who are taking ribavirin therapy.

Producing a broad-spectrum activity against several RNA and DNA viruses, Ribavirin is a synthetic guanosine nucleoside and antiviral agent that interferes with the synthesis of viral mRNA. It is primarily indicated for use in treating hepatitis C and viral hemorrhagic fevers.
