Rinotec 100mg Injection is given as an IV infusion into vein by a qualified medical professional. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised. Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits but do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.


The most common side effects of this medicine include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, weakness, and hair loss. This medicine may reduce the number of blood cells (decrease red blood and white blood cells) in your blood, thereby, increasing the susceptibility to infections. Inform your doctor if you notice fever, sore throat, and continuous episodes of diarrhea. Regular blood tests are required to check your blood cells along with heart, liver, and blood uric acid levels.


Before taking it, tell your doctor if you have heart disease, liver, or kidney problems or are taking any medicines to treat infections. Many other medicines can affect, or be affected by, this medicine so let your healthcare team know all medications you are using. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The use of effective contraception by both males and females during treatment is important to avoid pregnancy.

Mechanism Of Action

Rinotec 100mg Injection is an anti-cancer medication. It works by suppressing the activity of an enzyme (topoisomerase I) involved in DNA multiplication of the cancer cells. This slows the growth of cancer cells and eventually kills them.

Pharmacokinets

The clinical pharmacokinetics of irinotecan (CPT11) can be described by a 2 or 3 compartment model, a mean terminal half-life of 12 hours, a volume of distribution at steady state of 168 l/m2 and a total body clearance of 15 l/m2/h. Irinotecan is 65% bound to plasma proteins.

Indications

Irinotecan is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat colon or rectal cancer (cancer that begins in the large intestine). Irinotecan is in a class of antineoplastic medications called topoisomerase I inhibitors. It works by stopping the growth of cancer cells.

Interactions

Drug-Drug Interactions: IRINOTECAN may interact with macrolide antibiotics (e.g. clarithromycin, erythromycin), medicines used to treat high blood pressure and to control angina (e.g. diltiazem), anti-fungal medications (e.g. itraconazole, ketoconazole) and HIV/AIDS medications (e.g. ritonavir).

Drug-Food Interactions: Avoid the consumption of alcoholic beverages and grapefruit juices.

Drug-Disease Interactions: IRINOTECAN may interact with disease conditions, including severe renal or hepatic conditions, severe diarrhoea, bone marrow suppression, Neutropenia (An abnormally low count of a type of white blood cell), and pulmonary toxicity.
