Saflutan Eye Drop is to be used only in the affected eye in the dose and duration as advised by the doctor. Wash your hands before using this medicine. It is advised to check the label for directions before use. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping the medicine too early may lead to the infection returning or worsening. It is advisable to remove contact lenses before using the medicine.


The most common side effects of this medicine include burning sensation, stinging sensation, itching, eyelash changes and eye pain. If these side effects persist for a longer duration, inform your doctor. In case by accident, this medicine goes into your ears, nose or mouth, immediately rinse it with water. It is advised not to drive or operate heavy machinery after use of this medicine as it may cause blurring of vision and may affect your ability to drive.


It is not likely that other medicines you take by mouth or injection will affect the way it works, but talk to your doctor before using it if you have used a similar medicine before and had an allergic reaction. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Mechanism Of Action

Saflutan Eye Drop is a prostaglandin analogue. It works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor, thereby lowering the increased eye pressure.

Pharmacokinets

Tafluprost, as a lipophilic ester, easily penetrates the cornea and is then activated to the carboxylic acid, tafluprost acid. Onset of action is 2 to 4 hours after application, the maximal effect is reached after 12 hours, and ocular pressure remains lowered for at least 24 hours.

Contra Indications

Use with caution in patients with intraocular inflammation, aphakic patients, pseudophakic patients with a torn posterior lens capsule, or patients with risk factors for macular edema.

Breast Feeding Related Information

Typical Dosage

Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.

Effects Of Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Saflutan Eye Drop, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

Expert Advice

Saflutan Eye Drop helps lower high pressure in the eye and reduces the risk of vision loss.

For best results, put one drop once a day in the evening/night in the affected eye(s).

Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute, immediately after instilling the drop.

Saflutan Eye Drop may cause brown pigmentation of the iris. This discoloration may be permanent.

Your eyelashes may become more dense and eyelid skin may darken. These changes should disappear after discontinuing Saflutan Eye Drop.

Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.

Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
