Salbutamol relaxes the smooth muscles of all airways, from the trachea to the terminal bronchioles. Salbutamol acts as a functional antagonist to relax the airway irrespective of the spasmogen involved, thus protecting against all bronchoconstrictor challenges.

Pharmacokinetics. The pharmacokinetics of salbutamol in dogs and cats have not been studied. In humans, when administered by inhalation, salbutamol produces significant bronchodilation within 15 min that lasts for 3–4 h. It is also generally well absorbed orally and may have broncho- dilatory effects for up to 8 h.
