Mechanism Of Action

Sandostatin 0.1mg Injection is a similar to somatostatin, a substance normally found in the human body which inhibits the effects of certain hormones such as growth hormone. It also lowers the bleeding from the food pipe by constricting (narrowing) the blood vessels.


Pharmacokinets

One pharmacokinetic study revealed a plasma half-life ranging from 72-113 minutes. The total body clearance of octreotide is 7-10 L/h. One pharmacokinetic study revealed a total body clearance of 11.4 L/h.

Indications

Octreotide immediate-release injection is used to decrease the amount of growth hormone (a natural substance) produced by people with acromegaly (condition in which the body produces too much growth hormone, causing enlargement of the hands, feet, and facial features; joint pain; and other symptoms) who cannot be treated with surgery, radiation, or another medication.

Interactions

OCTREOTIDE may have interaction with antacids (cimetidine), anti-gout (pain in the joints) (allopurinol), medicines for heart disease (quinidine), antiallergic (terfenadine), antidiabetic (metformin).

Store in a refrigerator (2 - 8°C). Do not freeze.


Effects Of Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Sandostatin 0.1mg Injection, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
