SF 20mg Tablet is taken one hour before meals preferably at bedtime in the dose and duration advised by the doctor. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen.
The most common side effect of SF 20mg Tablet is constipation. Take plenty of fluids while taking this medicine to prevent this. Dizziness and sleepiness may occasionally occur, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you.
Before taking SF 20mg Tablet inform the doctor if you are suffering from any liver or kidney disease. Let your doctor know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine. Do not take antacids within two hours of taking SF 20mg Tablet.
SF 20mg Tablet forms a coating over the ulcer or any other raw surface. This creates a physical barrier that protects the ulcer/raw surface from the gastric acid or any other injury, allowing it to heal.
Pharmacokinetics. Only 3–5% of an oral dose of sucralfate is absorbed and this is excreted unchanged in urine within 48 h. The remainder of the drug is excreted in feces within 48 h. Sucralfate binds to the ulcer site for up to 6 h after oral dosing.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Constipation
Documented hypersensitivity to sucralfate is an absolute contraindication as it can cause an anaphylactic reaction. Some of the relative contraindications include end-stage renal disease, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus with hyperglycemia, impaired swallowing/gag reflex.
SF 20mg Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
Caution is advised when consuming alcohol with SF 20mg Tablet. Please consult your doctor.
SF 20mg Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Sucralfate is a medication used to treat duodenal ulcers, epithelial wounds, chemotherapy-induced mucositis, radiation proctitis, ulcers in Behcet disease, and burn wounds.
Sucralfate can interact with warfarin, thyroid medications, and digoxin. Interactions with bisphosphonates like Fosamax, antibiotics like ciprofloxacin, and food are also possible. This is likely due to how sucralfate coats your stomach and intestines to help ulcers heal.
Do not chew, crush or break it. SF 20mg Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.
Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of SF 20mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Consult a doctor before taking any medicines.
Do not take antacids 30 minutes before or after taking this medication.
Use caution while driving or doing anything that requires concentration as SF 20mg Tablet can cause dizziness and sleepiness.
It may take 4-6 weeks or more for the ulcers to heal completely. Do not stop taking the medicine until your doctor tells you to.
Inform your doctor if you have a kidney disorder.
Take SF 20mg Tablet on an empty stomach, preferably 1 hour before a meal.
