Give Solomycin 50mg Tablet to your child orally, either 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Avoid giving milk and other dairy products to your child within a few hours of giving Solomycin 50mg Tablet. Also, prevent your child from lying down for at least 1 hour after taking this medicine to prevent irritation in the throat. Prefer giving it at about the same time each day as that will help you remember. The dose will depend on the severity and type of infection, body weight, and age of your child. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of intake, help the child calm down and repeat the same dose, but make sure to never double up the dose if it is time for the next dose.

Some children may develop minor and temporary side effects after taking this medicine. These include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dry mouth, abdominal pain, tooth discoloration, and skin rash. These side effects usually go away once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, in case they persist for long or start bothering your child, you must consult your child’s doctor without any delay.

Your child’s doctor must be aware if your child has ever had any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This will guide the doctor in planning your child’s overall treatment.

The bacteriostatic action of tetracyclines, like doxycycline hyclate, is intended to stop the growth of bacteria by allosterically binding to the 30S prokaryotic ribosomal unit during protein synthesis.

Pharmacokinets

Doxycycline is metabolized in the liver and gastrointestinal tract through an unknown mechanism and is eliminated via both biliary secretion and glomerular filtration in the kidney (8). Approximately 40% to 45% of doxycycline is recovered in urine as an unchanged drug within 72 h (8, 14, 15).

Side Effects

Solomycin 50mg Tablet does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. Indications

Doxycycline (Oracea) is used only to treat pimples and bumps caused by rosacea. Doxycycline is in a class of medications called tetracycline antibiotics. It works to treat infections by preventing the growth and spread of bacteria.

Interactions

Some products that may interact with this drug include: retinoid medications taken by mouth (such as acitretin, isotretinoin), barbiturates (such as phenobarbital), "blood thinners" (such as warfarin), digoxin, anti-seizure medications (such as phenytoin), strontium.

Do not chew, crush or break it. Solomycin 50mg Tablet is to be taken with food. Avoid Solomycin 50mg Tablet with dairy products such as milk, cheese, curd, butter, paneer and ice cream.

Effects Of Missed Dosage

Do not panic. You can give the missed dose as soon as you remember unless your child’s doctor has advised otherwise. Remember not to double the dose to catch up with the missed one. In case of any confusion, do consult your child’s doctor.

Expert Advice

Maintain a sufficient time gap between meals and medicine intake as giving it before food poses a risk of stomach upset but giving it after food may reduce its absorption.

If your child develops diarrhea as a side effect, encourage them to drink plenty of water.

Give the medicine to your child while sitting or standing, to prevent any throat irritation. Do not let your child lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking Solomycin 50mg Tablet.

Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid to your child within 2 hours of taking Solomycin 50mg Tablet as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.

Solomycin 50mg Tablet may make your child’s skin sensitive to sunlight. Avoid unnecessary or prolonged exposure to sunlight and make sure your child wears protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen whenever going out in the sun.

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.

Discontinue Solomycin 50mg Tablet and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.

Q. My child is 6 years old. Is it safe to give Solomycin 50mg Tablet?

Solomycin 50mg Tablet is not safe to be given to children who are less than 8 years of age. It may interfere with the growth of teeth and bones due to its interaction with calcium and can result in tooth discoloration and bone deformities.

Q. Why should you not lie down after taking Solomycin 50mg Tablet?

If Solomycin 50mg Tablet comes in direct contact with the throat and food pipe, it may cause mucosal irritation or injury. Hence, the child should not lie down immediately after taking Solomycin 50mg Tablet and should remain upright for some time.
