Sosrane Liquid For Inhalation causes loss of consciousness which is reversible. It is administered under the supervision of a doctor or a nurse in a hospital or clinical setting. You should not self-administer this medicine.


The most common side effects include shivering, nausea, vomiting, high-grade fever, decreased blood pressure, and irregular heartbeat. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.


Also, inform your doctor if you are on any medications or have any known allergy to this medicine before the start of the procedure. It may cause an increase in intracranial pressure which is the pressure inside the skull which can affect the ability to drive. It is also advised not to operate machinery because of these effects.

Mechanism Of Action

Sosrane Liquid For Inhalation is put into a special anaesthetic machine (vaporiser) where it becomes a gas. Thereafter, it mixes with the oxygen that you breathe in, and induces reversible loss of consciousness. This allows surgical procedures to be carried out without pain and distress.

Pharmacokinets

Isoflurane is minimally metabolized by CYP2E1 to trifluoroacetic acid (TFA). Only approximately 0.2% of isoflurane is metabolized [Article:25593732]. Isoflurane is considered less hepatotoxic compared to halothane and enflurane but some rare incidents of fatal hepatotoxocity have been reported [Article:25593732].

Indications

Isoflurane may be used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. Adequate data have not been developed to establish its application in obstetrical anesthesia.

Interactions

The metabolism of Isoflurane can be decreased when combined with Amprenavir. The risk or severity of adverse effects can be increased when Isoflurane is combined with Amyl Nitrite. The risk or severity of QTc prolongation can be increased when Isoflurane is combined with Anagrelide.
