Spasidex Drop is used in the treatment of abdominal pain and irritable bowel syndrome It helps to control sudden muscle contractions (spasms), thereby reduces abdominal cramps.


Spasidex Drop is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by your doctor. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your doctor know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine.


The most common side effects are dry mouth, blurred vision, nausea, weakness, and nervousness. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are at all concerned about any of these side effects. It may cause dizziness and sleepiness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it can make drowsiness worse. 


Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking this medicine. It should be used with caution in patients with liver and kidney disease or alcohol abuse. It should not be used in infants less than six months of age.

Dicyclomine relieves smooth muscle spasm of the gastrointestinal tract. This action is achieved via a dual mechanism: (1) a specific anticholinergic effect at the acetylcholine-receptor sites and (2) a direct effect upon smooth muscle

Pharmacokinets

Dicyclomine is an antimuscarinic agent used to treat IBS. Dicyclomine is a muscarinic M1, M3, and M2 receptor antagonist as well as a non-competitive inhibitor of histamine and bradykinin used to treat spasms of the intestines seen in functional bowel disorder and irritable bowel syndrome.

Contra Indications

Hypersensitivity to dicyclomine or any anticholinergic drugs.

Closed-angle glaucoma.

Myasthenia gravis.

Intestinal atony of elderly/debilitated patients.

Toxic megacolon.


Pregnancy Related Information

Spasidex Drop is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.


Product And Alcohol Interaction

Spasidex Drop may cause excessive drowsiness with alcohol.


Breast Feeding Related Information

Spasidex Drop is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.

Dicyclomine is used to treat the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Dicyclomine is in a class of medications called anticholinergics. It relieves muscle spasms in the gastrointestinal tract by blocking the activity of a certain natural substance in the body

Interactions

Dicyclomine can have drug interactions, including with other anticholinergic medications. Examples include diphenhydramine, some antipsychotics, and some antidepressants. Other possible dicyclomine interactions include metoclopramide, glaucoma medications, and antacids

Effects Of Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Spasidex Drop, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
