Spiratox Tablet should be taken orally on an empty stomach. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping the medicine too early may lead to the infection returning or worsening.
Commonly seen side effects seen with this medicine include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea. These are usually temporary and subside with the completion of treatment. Consult your doctor if these side effects do not resolve or persist for a longer duration.
Regular monitoring of liver function tests (LFT’s) may be required while using this medicine. This medicine is safe to use during pregnancy. However, it will not affect the severity of the disease if the unborn child has already been infected. Inform your doctor if you have any previous history of allergy before taking this medicine.
Spiratox Tablet is an antibiotic. It works by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Thus, it stops the bacteria from growing, and prevents the infection from spreading.
Pharmacokinetic pilot studies showed that spiramycin distribution follows a two-compartment model in rhesus monkeys. Following a single intravenous dose of 50 or 250 mg, dose-dependent kinetics were observed. At a dose of 50 mg, 10% of the dose was excreted unchanged in the urine.
Spiramycin is contraindicated in cases of known hypersensitivity to Spiramycin or to other antibiotics of the macrolide group, or to any of the excipients. Note when using Spiramycin: Because Spiramycin can be toxic to the liver, so it should be used with caution in people with liver dysfunction.
Spiratox Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
