Stimat 5 mg Tablet aids in the treatment and prevention of severe nausea, vomiting, vertigo (feeling of dizziness) related to inner ear disorders, migraine, and short-term anxiety. It contains prochlorperazine, an anti-sickness medicine, which acts as a dopamine antagonist (has the opposite effect of dopamine). It is also used occasionally as an antipsychotic medicine. It works by reducing abnormal excitement in the brain. Stimat 5 mg Tablet can be taken post-meals or as advised by the doctor. The dose and duration will differ from condition to condition. Usually, in adults, it is prescribed three to four times in a day, and in children one to three times. It should be avoided if children are less than 2 years old or whose weight is less than 9 kilograms. Avoid taking Stimat 5 mg for the long-term without medical advice.
To relieve nausea and vomiting, Stimat 5 mg Tablet acts by blocking the chemical (dopamine) in your brain region, which is responsible for nausea and can otherwise make you feel sick. Thus, it also helps prevent symptoms in certain cases where required. Stimat 5 mg Tablet suppresses the inner ear organ vestibular apparatus and relieves vertigo(spinning or dizziness sensation). To relieve migraine (one-sided headache with nausea), Stimat 5 mg acts against dopamine D2 receptors and relieves headaches. By blocking dopamine action, Stimal Tablets affect mood and thoughts and relieves short-term anxiety
Prochlorperazine is reported to be mainly excreted via the feces and bile. Low quantities of unchanged prochlorperazine and its metabolite were detectable in the urine. Following intravenous and single oral dose administration, the terminal elimination half live were 9 and 8 hours, respectively.
