Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Taxim-O CV 200 Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Cefixime and Clavulanic Acid. Cefixime is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Cefixime against bacteria.

Pharmacokinets

Cefixime, an antibiotic, is a third-generation cephalosporin like ceftriaxone and cefotaxime. Cefixime is highly stable in the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes. As a result, many organisms resistant to penicillins and some cephalosporins due to the presence of beta-lactamases, may be susceptible to cefixime. Clavulanic acid is well absorbed after oral ingestion in adult men, with a mean bioavailability of 60%. Peak concentrations are reached on average 0.7–2.0 h after ingestion. Its metabolism is partly hepatic with plasma protein binding up to 30% and it is cleared through both renal and non-renal pathways [13, 14].
