Telmisartan is categorized as angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). It works by dilating blood vessels so that blood can perfuse more easily. Telmisartan blocks angiotensin II receptor that shows high affinity about 3000 times greater for AT1 than AT2.
Telmisartan is metabolized by conjugation to form a pharmacologically inactive acylglucuronide; the glucuronide of the parent compound is the only metabolite that has been identified in human plasma and urine. After a single dose, the glucuronide represents approximately 11% of the measured radioactivity in plasma.
Pharmacokinetics. Chlortalidone is slowly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral ingestion. It has a long half-life and therefore a prolonged diuretic action, which results in continued diuretic effects despite a skipped dose.
