Telmiride 20mg Tablet can be prescribed either alone or in combination with other medicines. It may be taken with or without food during the day or at night. However, try to take it at the same time each day to get the most benefit. It is important to continue taking it regularly even if you feel well or if your blood pressure is controlled. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel ill, but if you stop taking this medicine, your condition could get worse. This is a widely used medicine and is considered safe for long-term use.
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by blocking a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, telmisartan relaxes the blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.
The pharmacokinetics of orally administered telmisartan are nonlinear over the dose range 20-160 mg, with greater than proportional increases of plasma concentrations (Cmax and AUC) with increasing doses. Telmisartan shows bi-exponential decay kinetics with a terminal elimination half life of approximately 24 hours.

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Telmiride 20mg Tablet.
Telmiride 20mg Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Telmisartan is used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly.
Some products that may interact with this drug include: aliskiren, lithium, ramipril, drugs that may increase the level of potassium in the blood (such as ACE inhibitors including benazepril/lisinopril, birth control pills containing drospirenone).

If you miss a dose of Telmiride 20mg Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

It can make you feel dizzy for the first few days. Rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down for a long time.
Your doctor may get regular test done to monitor the level of urea, creatinine, and potassium in your blood.
Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen, along with Telmiride 20mg Tablet without consulting your doctor.
It may increase the level of potassium in blood. Avoid taking potassium supplements and potassium-rich foods such as bananas, coconut water and broccoli.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Telmiride 20mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Q. Should Telmiride 20mg Tablet be taken in the morning or at night?
Telmiride 20mg Tablet is generally recommended to be taken once daily, either in the morning or in the evening. Consider taking it at the same time each day as it will help you to remember taking it.
Q. How long does it take for Telmiride 20mg Tablet to work?
You may see an improvement within a few days. But, the maximum benefit can be seen within 4-8 weeks of starting treatment.
Q. My blood pressure is now controlled. Can I stop taking Telmiride 20mg Tablet now?
No, do not stop taking Telmiride 20mg Tablet without consulting your doctor even if your blood pressure is controlled. Stopping it suddenly may increase your blood pressure which could be detrimental for you. Telmiride 20mg Tablet does not cure high blood pressure but controls it. So, you may have to take the medicine lifelong. Talk to your doctor if you have any concerns.
Q. If I have some kidney problem, can I take Telmiride 20mg Tablet? Can it further deteriorate my kidney function?
You can take Telmiride 20mg Tablet if it has been advised by your doctor. Your doctor may ask you to get regular tests done (potassium and creatinine levels) in order to monitor your kidney function. Telmiride 20mg Tablet may cause worsening of kidney function, therefore you should contact your doctor in case you notice swelling in your feet, ankles, or hands or unexplained weight gain.
