Rinse it off with water if you accidentally get the medicine in these areas.
Local side effects like minor burning or irritation may be seen after application. Consult your doctor if these persist or if your condition does not improve within 3-5 days. Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any previous history of allergy with it or any other medicine. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using it.
The drug is a unique antimicrobial agent because of its structure and mechanism of action. Mupirocin apparently exerts its antimicrobial activity by reversibly inhibiting isoleucyl-transfer RNA, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein and RNA synthesis.
Mupirocin is administered topically to the skin or the nares. Once in systemic circulation, it is rapidly metabolized to inactive monic acid and is excreted via the kidneys. The elimination half-life is 20—40 minutes for mupirocin and 30—80 minutes for monic acid.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them
