Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Tiotropium works by blocking the muscarinic receptors for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (Ach), which is released from cholinergic nerve endings in the airways. As tiotropium bromide is electrically charged, it is not absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract and does not pass the blood-brain barrier.

Pharmacokinets

Tiotropium is a long-acting, antimuscarinic bronchodilator used in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. Tiotropium acts mainly on M3 muscarinic receptors located in the airways to produce smooth muscle relaxation and bronchodilation.

Side Effects

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them
