Tmp 300mg Tablet is an antibiotic medicine used to treat bacterial infections in your body. It helps to kill germs (bacteria) that cause various types of infections like infections of the urinary tract and respiratory tract.


Tmp 300mg Tablet should be taken in the dose and duration as advised by the doctor. You may take it with food. It is better to have this medicine at the same time each day to get the most benefit and you should keep on taking this medicine for as long as you are prescribed. Stopping it early may make the infection to come back and harder to treat.

Trimethoprim exerts antimicrobial activity by blocking the reduction of dihydrofolate to tetrahydrofolate, the active form of folic acid, by susceptible organisms. It has inhibitory activity for most gram-positive aerobic cocci and some gram-negative aerobic bacilli.


Pharmacokinets

Single oral dose trimethoprim pharmacokinetics were determined in 18 children aged 3 months to 13 years. Trimethoprim suspension was rapidly absorbed and quickly and widely distributed. The mean clearance was considerably faster and the elimination half life considerably shorter than values reported in adults.

Contra Indications

Indications

Acute infective exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.

Otitis media in pediatrics only.

Travelers diarrhea for treatment and prophylaxis.

Urinary tract infections.

Shigellosis.

Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia/Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PJP/PCP) both prophylactic and treatment.
