You can develop tolerance to this medicine over time, which means that the same dose becomes less effective. You have to stick to a really specific dosing schedule to prevent this from happening.
The most common side effect of this medicine is nausea, vomiting, and headache. There are other, rarer side effects, some of them serious. Ask your doctor and read the leaflet which comes with the medicine to make sure you are keeping safe.
Do not use Top Nitro 5mg Transdermal Patch if you are taking medicines to treat high blood pressure in your lungs (pulmonary hypertension), or erectile dysfunction; or if you have anemia or glaucoma (increased pressure inside the eye). Always tell your doctor what other health conditions you have and what other medicines you are taking. It is best not to drink alcohol with this medicine as it increases some of the side effects. If you are affected by dizziness, avoid driving. If you are pregnant, thinking about becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding, ask your doctor before taking this medicine.
As with other nitrates used to treat anginal chest pain, nitroglycerin converts to nitric oxide (NO) in the body. NO then activates the enzyme guanylyl cyclase, which converts guanosine triphosphate (GTP) to guanosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cGMP) in vascular smooth muscle and other tissues.
Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism Absorption: Nitroglycerin is rapidly absorbed following sublingual administration of Nitrostat tablets. Mean peak nitroglycerin plasma concentrations occur at a mean time of approximately 6 to 7 minutes postdose (Table 1).

Nitroglycerin sublingual tablets are used to treat episodes of angina (chest pain) in people who have coronary artery disease (narrowing of the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart). It is also used just before activities that may cause episodes of angina in order to prevent the angina from occurring.
Nitroglycerin may interact with certain other medications, such as PDE-5 inhibitors. PDE-5 inhibitors are drugs that doctors give to treat erectile dysfunction. Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra are PDE-5 inhibitors. As with nitroglycerin, these drugs also cause increased blood flow and can lower blood pressure.

It may cause headaches which usually go away after a few days of continued treatment. Inform your doctor if it persists.
Stop taking medications (prescribed for erectile dysfunction) like sildenafil or tadalafil while on treatment with Top Nitro 5mg Transdermal Patch as it may cause low blood pressure.

Yes, excessive use of Top Nitro 5mg Transdermal Patch may cause tolerance which means that Top Nitro 5mg Transdermal Patch may lose its effectiveness on you. Therefore, usually the doctors prescribe the smallest dose required for effective relief of acute angina attack. This helps maintain the effectiveness of Top Nitro 5mg Transdermal Patch. While using Top Nitro 5mg Transdermal Patch patches, it is best to take it off for 8 to 12 hours of every 24 hours. This will help maintain the effectiveness of Top Nitro 5mg Transdermal Patch.
Q. What effect does Top Nitro 5mg Transdermal Patch have on blood pressure?
Top Nitro 5mg Transdermal Patch decreases the blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels, but is not recommended for the treatment of high blood pressure. The drop in blood pressure may cause lightheadedness, especially when changing your position suddenly.
Q. What does too much Top Nitro 5mg Transdermal Patch do?
Excess Top Nitro 5mg Transdermal Patch may result in low blood pressure, sweating, nausea, vomiting, headache, weak and fast pulse. It may also cause weakness, lightheadedness on standing and the patient might even faint. The patient will require emergency medical treatment in such a case.

Stopping Top Nitro 5mg Transdermal Patch suddenly may bring on attacks of angina, especially if you have been using it for several weeks or more. Talk to your doctor who will advise you to reduce the dose gradually over 4 to 6 weeks before you stop using it completely.
