Topaz 100 Tablet may be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time, each day. If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember it and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor may cause an increased frequency of seizures. Your doctor may advise regular monitoring of serum bicarbonate levels while you are taking this medicine.
Topaz 100 Tablet is an anticonvulsant (or anti-epileptic) medicine that works by decreasing the nerve impulses which cause the seizures. By controlling the frequency of seizures, it will help you go about your daily activities with more confidence.
The pharmacokinetics of topiramate are linear with dose proportional increases in plasma concentration over the dose range studied (200 to 800 mg/day). The mean plasma elimination half-life is 21 hours after single or multiple doses. Steady state is thus reached in about 4 days in patients with normal renal function.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Topaz 100 Tablet is unsafe to use during pregnancy as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby. However, the doctor may rarely prescribe it in some life-threatening situations if the benefits are more than the potential risks. Please consult your doctor.
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Topaz 100 Tablet.
Topaz 100 Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.

Topiramate is an antiepileptic medication. It controls seizures or fits by decreasing the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain.

Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of Topaz 100 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Do not change the brand of your medicine and make sure that you have sufficient amount of medicine present with you.
Some healthy tips to prevent seizures:
Practice yoga every day.
Get enough sleep at nighttime.
Limit the use of screen time such as mobile/laptop.
Take your medication on time.
It may cause dizziness and sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how it affects you.
Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day while taking Topaz 100 Tablet. This can reduce the risk of kidney stones.
Monitor your weight during treatment with this medicine as it can cause weight gain.
Talk to your doctor if you notice sudden mood changes or develop suicidal thoughts.
Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor as it may increase the seizure frequency.

Q. For how long do I need to take Topaz 100 Tablet?
The dose and duration of this medicine will depend on your doctor’s advice. Topaz 100 Tablet does not cure your condition (seizures/migraine) but prevents them from occurring. So, you may have to keep taking it for months or years depending on improvement in your symptoms and side effects that may occur.
Q. Is Topaz 100 Tablet good for anxiety?
Topaz 100 Tablet is not indicated for the treatment of anxiety. Please consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Q. What are the serious side effects of Topaz 100 Tablet?
Serious side effects of Topaz 100 Tablet are rare. The serious effects of Topaz 100 Tablet may include glaucoma (difficulty in seeing, eye pain, and blurred vision), kidney stones (sharp pain in your sides or lower back), and metabolic acidosis (tiredness, loss of appetite, irregular and faint heartbeat). Other serious side effects of Topaz 100 Tablet could be suicidal thoughts and insufficient sweating (some children taking Topaz 100 Tablet may not sweat enough in hot weather, causing their body temperatures to rise).
Q. I am taking valproic acid for fits. Will Topaz 100 Tablet interfere with the working of valproic acid? Can this combination be taken?
Topaz 100 Tablet does not interfere with the working of valproic acid, but it increases the risk of getting excess levels of ammonia in the blood (hyperammonemia). Increased levels of ammonia in the blood can be dangerous and may cause difficulty in thinking, remembering information, or solving problems. It may also decrease your alertness and make you feel very sleepy with low energy. Immediately inform your doctor if you notice these symptoms. It is important to know that, in rare cases, Topaz 100 Tablet alone can cause hyperammonemia.
Q. Can Topaz 100 Tablet be used in children?
Yes, Topaz 100 Tablet is used for seizures in children more than 2 years of age. However, because of the lack of any reports, this medicine is not recommended to be used in children for migraines.
Q. Since I have started using Topaz 100 Tablet people are saying that I have lost weight. Is it because of Topaz 100 Tablet or something else for which I should get investigated?
It could be due to Topaz 100 Tablet because Topaz 100 Tablet commonly causes weight loss probably due to a decrease in appetite. If you still have any doubts, talk to your doctor who will advise you appropriately.
