Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Urokinase acts to convert this plasminogen into plasmin and thereby to dissolve the thrombus. The plasmin thus generated within the fibrin clot is not affected by antiplasmins. According to Ambus et al., the plasmin thus activated by urokinase conjugates with anitplasmins and circulates in the blood.

Pharmacokinets

Urokinase administered by intravenous infusion is rapidly cleared by the liver with an elimination half-life for biologic activity of 12.6 ± 6.2 minutes and a distribution volume of 11.5 L. Small fractions of the administered dose are excreted in bile and urine.
