Valcivir 1000 Tablet should be taken in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. It may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time. You should drink plenty of water while on treatment with this medicine as it helps to prevent dehydration and kidney damage.
Valacyclovir is converted to acyclovir, which is converted to its triphosphate form, acyclovir triphosphate (ACV-TP). ACV-TP competitively inhibits viral DNA polymerase, incorporates into and terminates the growing viral DNA chain, and inactivates of the viral DNA polymerase.
Valacyclovir is well absorbed via intestinal brush border membranes and undergoes rapid and extensive first-pass intestinal/hepatic metabolism by the enzyme valacyclovir hydrolase to acyclovir and L-valine.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Valcivir 1000 Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Valcivir 1000 Tablet. Please consult your doctor.
Valcivir 1000 Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
VALTREX is indicated for the treatment of cold sores (herpes labialis) in pediatric patients aged greater than or equal to 12 years. The efficacy of VALTREX initiated after the development of clinical signs of a cold sore (e.g., papule, vesicle, or ulcer) has not been established.
Valacyclovir has no known severe interactions with other drugs. Serious interactions of valacyclovir include: bacitracin. talimogene laherparepvec.
Moderate interactions of valacyclovir include:
cimetidine.
elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir DF.
emtricitabine.
tenofovir DF.
Do not chew, crush or break it. Valcivir 1000 Tablet may be taken with or without food
Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of Valcivir 1000 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. For how long do I need to take Valcivir 1000 Tablet?
The duration of Valcivir 1000 Tablet treatment depends on the disease you are being treated for and whether your immune system is capable of fighting infections or not. For example, if you are taking it for shingles and your immune system works effectively, then you may need to take it for 7 days only. But, if your immunity is compromised, then you may need to take Valcivir 1000 Tablet for 7 days and 2 days more after the lesions have dried and healed. Follow your doctor’s recommendations strictly.
Q. Does Valcivir 1000 Tablet cure herpes infection?
Valcivir 1000 Tablet reduces the pain and itching caused due to the herpes infection but does not cure it. It helps to heal the sores and prevents the formation of new ones.
Q. Is Valcivir 1000 Tablet an antibiotic or a steroid? What is it used for?
Valcivir 1000 Tablet is neither an antibiotic nor a corticosteroid. It is an antiviral medicine and acts against viruses. It is effective against herpes simplex virus (chickenpox, cold sores, and genital herpes), varicella-zoster virus (shingles), and cytomegalovirus (CMV). Valcivir 1000 Tablet prevents the occurrence of CMV infection and disease after organ transplant.
Q. If I have genital herpes, can Valcivir 1000 Tablet prevent transmission of infection to others?
Valcivir 1000 Tablet reduces the chances of passing the infection to your partner, but the possibility of transmission still exists. You should practice safe sex by using condoms. However, you should not have sex if you have genital sores or blisters.
