Hyaluronidase increase the permeability of connective tissue through the hydrolysis of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronidase hydrolyzes hyaluronic acid by splitting the glucosaminidic bond between C1 of the glucosamine moiety and C4 of glucuronic acid. This temporarily decreases the viscosity of the cellular cement and increases diffusion of injected fluids or of localized transudates or exudates, thus facilitating their absorption.
Hyaluronidase depolymerises the mucopolysaccharide hyaluronic acid, a component of the mucoprotein ground substance or tissue cement. Hyaluronidase thereby increases in tissues the membrane permeability, reduces the viscosity and renders the tissues more readily permeable to injected fluids (spreading effect).
It is a safe medicine and has minimal or no side effects. However, some patients might experience injection site reactions such as redness, swelling, and pain. Lrt you doctor know if they bother you.
