Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Westel 5mg Tablet is a dopamine antagonist. Dopamine controls the region in the brain that causes nausea and vomiting and this medicine blocks the action of dopamine. Therefore, Westel 5mg Tablet shows an antiemetic action. Westel 5mg Tablet suppresses the vestibular apparatus in the inner ear and stops vertigo. The mechanism of action by which neuroleptics like prochlorperazine relieve headache is probably related to the dopamine D2 receptor antagonist. It has an antipsychotic effect by blocking the action of dopamine, which also affects thoughts and mood. So, it also helps to relieve short-term anxiety as well.

Pharmacokinets

Plasma half-life (t1/2) of prochlorperazine was 6.8 +/- 0.7 h and 6.9 +/- 0.8 h for the 12.5 mg and 6.25 mg i.v. doses respectively. Apparent volume of distribution and plasma clearance were high and the kinetics did not appear to be dose-related.
