It blocks the pain signals to reach the brain by temporarily numbing the surgical area and helps to perform a painless procedure.This medicine is generally safe with little or no side effects. However, it may cause injection site reactions, such as pain, swelling, and redness, in some people. These are usually mild and short-lived. If the numbness or other side effects persist at the injection site, consult your doctor without any delay.
Xylocaine 5% Injection is a local anesthetic. It works by blocking the transmission of pain signals from the nerves to the brain. This helps to decrease the sensation of pain.
Lignocaine is eliminated primarily by hepatic metabolism, which appears to be limited by liver perfusion. Active metabolites may contribute to therapeutic and/or toxic effects. Disease states such as cardiac failure or drugs that alter hepatic blood flow may significantly affect lignocaine clearance.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Xylocaine 5% Injection is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
Caution is advised when consuming alcohol with Xylocaine 5% Injection. Please consult your doctor.
Xylocaine 5% Injection is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.

Q. How long does the effect of Xylocaine 5% Injection lasts?
The anesthetic effect of Xylocaine 5% Injection starts acting rapidly. However, it has a very short duration of action of 10-20 minutes after intravenous injection and 60-90 minutes after intramuscular action. The quantity of medicine reduces into half (into the blood-stream) within 1.5 to 2 hours of taking it.
Q. Is Xylocaine 5% Injection injection painful?
No, Xylocaine 5% Injection injection does not cause pain except when it is given as spinal anesthesia. Xylocaine 5% Injection usually relieves pain in conditions like neuropathic pain and pain occurring after surgery.
Q. Who should not be given Xylocaine 5% Injection?
Xylocaine 5% Injection should not be given to patients who are allergic to it, have decreased blood volume (hypovolemia), or complete heart block. If the solution also contains adrenaline, it should not be injected into a vein or used in areas such as fingers, toes, ears, nose or penis, as the blood supply to these areas may not be sufficient.
Q. Can Xylocaine 5% Injection be abused?
No, abuse of Xylocaine 5% Injection has not been observed yet. There are very rare reports of Xylocaine 5% Injection injection causing any euphoric effect. However, Xylocaine 5% Injection may cause some psychotic reactions such as fear from death, doom anxiety, and delirium. These are short-lasting and generally disappear after the effect of injection is over.
