Zil 1000mg Tablet is also used in the treatment of dental infections, leg ulcers, and pressure sores. This medicine should be taken with food, at the same time each day to get the most benefit. The amount you are advised will depend on what you are being treated for and how bad it is, but you should take this antibiotic exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better after a short time but do not stop taking it until you have finished a full course of treatment, even if you feel well. Mechanism of Action: Tinidazole is an antiprotozoal, antibacterial agent. The nitro- group of tinidazole is reduced by cell extracts of Trichomonas. The free nitro- radical generated as a result of this reduction may be responsible for the antiprotozoal activity.


Pharmacokinets

Tinidazole is excreted by the liver and the kidneys. Tinidazole is excreted in the urine mainly as unchanged drug (approximately 20-25% of the administered dose). Approximately 12% of the drug is excreted in the feces. The elimination half-life is 13.2±1.4 hours and the plasma half-life is 12 to 14 hours.

Zil 1000mg Tablet should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.

If a single dose of Zil 1000mg Tablet is used, it is recommended to hold breastfeeding for 12-24 hours to allow the removal of the drug.


Indications

Tinidazole is used to treat infections caused by protozoa (eg, trichomoniasis, giardiasis, and amebiasis). It is also used to treat adult women with vaginal infections (bacterial vaginosis). Tinidazole belongs to the group of medicines called antiprotozoals.

Interactions

Some products that may interact with this drug include: alcohol-containing products (such as cough and cold syrups, aftershave), products containing propylene glycol, lopinavir/ritonavir solution, lithium. Do not take tinidazole if you are also taking disulfiram or if you have taken disulfiram within the last 2 weeks.
