Zolpax Nasal Spray is used to treat acute migraine attacks. It works by narrowing the blood vessels, thereby relieving migraine headaches and preventing the attack from becoming worse.


Zolpax Nasal Spray should be used as advised and you must follow proper guidance of the doctor. Carry the spray with you as an attack may occur anytime. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember it.


Side effects associated with the use of this medicine include dryness in mouth, nausea, taste changes, drowsiness and peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness of feet and hands). It may cause dizziness, do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. Inform your doctor if you are suffering from any heart disease as the use of this medicine is contraindicated in some heart problems.

Zolmitriptan is in a class of medications called selective serotonin receptor agonists. It works by narrowing blood vessels around the brain, stopping pain signals from being sent to the brain, and blocking the release of certain natural substances that cause pain, nausea, and other symptoms of migraine

The pharmacokinetics of zolmitriptan indicate dose proportionality over the dose range of 2.5 to 50 mg and there are no significant changes on multiple dosing. Zolmitriptan is cleared by metabolism followed by urinary excretion of the metabolites

Taking MAO inhibitors with this medication may cause a serious (possibly fatal) drug interaction. Do not take any MAO inhibitors (isocarboxazid, linezolid, metaxalone, methylene blue, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, safinamide, selegiline, tranylcypromine) during treatment with this medication

Typical Dosage

Direct the spray towards the sides of your nostril, away from the cartilage dividing the two sides of your nose. As you spray, breath gently and keep the head upright. Repeat the same process for the other nostrils.

Use this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Insert the bottle tip into one nostril and close the other nostril. Direct the spray towards the sides of your nostril, away from the cartilage dividing the two sides of your nose. As you spray, breath gently and keep the head upright. Repeat the same process for the other nostrils.
