Zycin 500mg Injection is also used to treat infections of the pelvic area and reproductive tract in women. It is a broad-spectrum type of antibiotic effective in killing many types of gram-positive bacteria, some types of gram-negative bacteria, and other microorganisms. This medicine is given by drip or by direct injection into a vein, under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Precise dosage and duration of treatment will be decided by your doctor based on your underlying condition and response to therapy. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping the medicine too early may lead to the infection returning or worsening.
Zycin 500mg Injection is an antibiotic. It works by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Thus, it stops the bacteria from growing, and prevents the infection from spreading.
The bioavailability of azithromycin is approximately 37%. Concomitant administration of oral azithromycin with food significantly decreases by 50% drug bioavailability. Following a single oral 500 mg dose, peak plasma concentrations of about 0.35-0.45 mg/l are attained within approximately 2 hours.

Zycin 500mg Injection is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Zycin 500mg Injection.
Zycin 500mg Injection is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
There may be a possibility of diarrhea or rash in the baby.

AZITHROMYCIN have interactions with anti-nausea pills (domperidone), mental health pills (pimozide, amisulpride), anti-migraine medicines (ergotamine, dihydroergotamine), anti-cholesterol pills (simvastatin), bladder weakness medicine (tolterodine) and anti-gout/arthritis medicine (colchicine). Taking these drugs with AZITHROMYCIN may cause serious side effects.

No, it is not advisable to take antacids especially the ones containing aluminum along with Zycin 500mg Injection. This is because it may interfere with the absorption of Zycin 500mg Injection in your body. Always give a gap of atleast 2 hours between the medicines.

No, Zycin 500mg Injection cannot be used for the treatment of viral infections like common colds or flu. It is an antibiotic and works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

Food items with soluble fiber can help relieve diarrhea as they help absorb excess fluid from the body. These food items include bananas (ripe), orange, boiled potatoes, white rice, curd, and oatmeal. Diarrhea can cause dehydration in the body, so drink 8-10 glasses of water to avoid dehydration. You can also have soups and juice frequently to hydrate yourself.
Q. I have been prescribed Zycin 500mg Injection and I'm wondering if it's OK to drink alcohol occasionally?
Drinking any amount of alcohol while fighting an infection may not be wise, as it can lead to dehydration, interrupt normal sleep, and may hinder the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Talk to your doctor if you have any doubts.
Q. Will Zycin 500mg Injection affect birth control?
Zycin 500mg Injection may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal birth control tablets although the risk is small. To be safe it is recommended that another method of birth control (e.g. condoms) be used for the time you are taking the antibiotics and then for another 7 days. The duration of treatment depends on the type of infection being treated and the age of the patient. Zycin 500mg Injection is not necessarily given for 3 days. In most bacterial infections, a single dose of 500 mg is given for 3 days. Alternatively, it can be given as 500 mg once on day 1 and then 250 mg once from day 2 to day 5. In some cases of infection such as genital ulcer disease, it is given as a single 1 gram dose. Therefore, you must stick to the regime advised by your doctor.

Other antibiotics comparatively have a shorter half-life and are usually given twice, thrice, or four times a day.

Some people may get a fungal or yeast infection known as thrush after taking Zycin 500mg Injection. Antibiotics such as Zycin 500mg Injection can kill the normal or ‘good bacteria’ of your intestine responsible for preventing thrush. You should inform your doctor if you get a sore or vaginal itching or discharge. Also, inform your doctor if you get a white patch in the mouth or tongue after taking Zycin 500mg Injection or soon after stopping it.
