Epoetin alfa promotes the formation of red blood cells in the bone marrow, which increases the red blood cell count in the body.
The bioavailability of epoetin administered intraperitoneally in dialysis fluid is about 3 to 8%, but this may be increased by injecting the drug into a dry peritoneal cavity. Subcutaneous administration results in peak concentrations at about 18 hours which are 5 to 10% of those found after the same intravenous dose.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them
